2% Strawberry Banana Chobani Opinion
Taste: Just like a strawberry banana smoothie! More strawberry than banana, but seriously – gasm. 5/5.
Texture: Thick like any Greek yogurt and extra creamy since it’s 2% = perfect. There were definitely strawberry chunks, but no banana – it would probably brown? 5/5.
Fill Factor: Great for my nighttime snack with some MultiGrain Cheerios. 14g of protein and 3g fat will keep you satisfied! 5/5.
Ingredients: “Cultured pasteurized nonfat milk, cream, evaporated cane juice, strawberries, bananas, natural flavors, locust bean gum, pectin, fruit and vegetable juice (for color), contains five live active cultures including S. Thermophilus, L. Bulgaricus, L.Acidophilus, Bifidus, and L. Casei.” 4/5.
Nutrition: Like the other 2% flavors, there are 160 calories in 1 6oz. cup. 3g of fat (2g saturated), 5mg of cholesterol, 65mg of sodium, 19g of carbs (1g from dietary fiber and 17g of sugar), and 14g of protein. Again, sugar is pretty high from lactose and fructose, but also from the third ingredient of evaporated cane juice (before both strawberries and bananas). 4/5.
Overall: Seriously did not want it to end. I’ll definitely be buying this regularly once it’s in stores. It was absolutely delicious. 5/5.

The carb/fat/protein combo kept me full into the morning, when I had to get blood drawn without eating anything first – so good job smoothie yogurt! After that surprisingly calm experience, I did some glorious detox yoga a la YogaDownload.com podcast. After that 7-miler yesterday, my legs and hips are kind of stiff but yoga definitely helped.

Larabar Cashew Cookie Opinion
Taste: Pretty light taste of cashews, which apparently aren’t my favorite.  2/5.
Texture: Moist, chewy, nutty – perfect!  5/5.
Fill Factor: Kept me fueled for 7 miles yesterday and an hour on the elliptical today without hunger pangs either time, which is really, really unusual for me. 5/5.
Ingredients: “Cashews, dates.” Maybe they should throw some salt in there? But still – 5/5.
Nutrition: 230 calories (highest count in a Larabar I’ve seen), 13g of fat (2.5g saturated, 0g trans fat, 2.5 polyunsaturated, 8g monounsaturated), no cholesterol or sodium, 340mg potassium, 23g of carbs (4g from fiber, 18g from sugars, and 6g of protein. 4/5.
Overall: Least favorite flavor yet. I was pretty disappointed, considering that I’ve heard such great things about. I won’t buy it again unless I’m craving cashews – and I can’t be trusted around unportioned nuts. 2/5.

At the gym, I did 60 minutes on the elliptical – “Kilimanjaro” aka mountain setting, at level 10. I probably should have taken today as a rest day after running more than I ever have before yesterday, but my legs weren’t sore at all, just a little tight, so I thought going easy on the elliptical would loosen them up. It did, and I don’t regret it, but it just wasn’t a good workout. I was however, extremely entertained the entire time.

To my left was a small man I see a lot, maybe in his late twenties, watching “The Secret Life of the American Teenager” on ABC Family. To my right was Rabbit, from 8 Mile. Legit. Complete with black hoodie covering his head and face (yet I could see him creeping) and ragging his finger – you could just tell he was angrily rapping at the poor elliptical. The finger wagging was so intense and consistent it actually really started to annoy me. Pretty persistent out of the corner of my eye there, Slim Shady.

I also watched the first half of “The Bachelor” premiere. Wow. Some of those girls are just … they just have to be following a script. There’s not way that show is unscripted. “Do you have a registry for those guns?” First of all, is your hair up or down? Second of all, that is not the proper term. Third, really?

Looks just like my brother! Except his eyes are green, not walnut hazel. I loveee this trail mix! It has peanuts, walnuts, almonds, pepitas, cranberries, raisins, and maybe one other seed? SO healthy and SO good.

I need to rehydrate – maybe with some more clementines! Have a great night!

Let’s rewind to last year …

I cooked for dinner! Cooked REAL FOOD!

Curried Chickpeas, adapted from this recipe.

  • 1 can of chickpeas
  • 3/4 c onion
  • 1 tbsp curry powder
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 c spinach
  • 1 tsp dried basil

I sprayed a skillet with Pam and sauteed the onions until they were transparent. I threw in the chickpeas, spinach, and spices and cooked on medium heat until the spinach was wilted, about 10 minutes. I also sprayed the pan/chickpeas/spinach with more Pam as they cooked.

I also made lemon ginger tofu, based on this recipe:

  • 1/3 box of cubed, super firm tofu – about 3 oz.
  • 1 tsp dried ginger
  • 1/2 tsp TruVia
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne
  • Lemon juice

I threw all the dry ingredients in a small bowl and used some leftover lemon to squeeze for the juice – probably about 3/4 of a lemon – maybe 1/4 cup of juice?

While I was prepping the rub and the chickpeas, I pressed my now-defrosted tofu, including this piece in the shape of Connecticut:

Then I baked at 375 for 30 minutes, flipping the cubes halfway through cooking:

The chickpeas are good! I still have half of what I made, but I think I’ll add more onions and some peas to the leftovers. With the lemon ginger tofu, there were too many strong flavors going on. I didn’t eat the tofu with dinner and threw it in the fridge to save for later.

So simple but so so good. Steamed carrots are amazing. Fresh green beans are amazing. And all they need is a little s&p.

I also snacked on a clemmie on the way out the door to run some errands. Lack of physical activity + slight tummyache = late and comforting dinner.

Have you seen Away We Go? I Netflixed it over a week ago but never got around to watching it until last night. It’s really good – not what I was expecting, but so good. John Krasinski is (aside from gorgeous) a great actor. I’d only ever seen him in “The Office” but he has a great range. It was also great to see Maya Rudolph in a non-goofy fun role – she’s great too. I didn’t expect them to have chemistry on screen, but they definitely do. They’re really cute. I highly suggest this movie!

I woke up this morning to some yoga – YogaDownload.com’s Shoulder Opener #1. Lovely. Then I made breakfast. Uh. Maze. Ing.

Pumpkin Pie Parfait

Using Kath’s recipe as a base, I mixed 1/2 cup of pumpkin with 1 egg white with a tiny bit of TruVia and pumpkin pie spice and microwaved for about 4 minutes. I plopped a vanilla Chobani on top and then crumbled a Kashi Pumpkin Spice granola bar on top.
Now I’m watching Julie & Julia and loving it and wanting to go to Paris now more than ever. Plus i love Stanley Tucci.
The lobster scene is HILARIOUS. We actually did that last Christmas – steamed live lobsters. Well, my step-dad did. Grandma had the biggest problem with it, but she was also on her third cocktail so it may have been exaggerated.
“The day there is a meteorite rushing toward Earth and we have thirty days to live, I am going to spend it eating butter.” Yes, me too. Until then, I’ll cut back in order to live for that day.

Gym and dinner were predictable but great – stair stepper, treadmill, and salad.  My nighttime snacks were pretty clutch though:

After my fruit and veggie bowl, I wanted something crunchy.  I forgot I had these and how great they are.  I highly suggest them and I really need to try the other flavors myself.

Eh – I put the turkey in for fun, but I guess I don’t like the turkey/egg combo or turkey for breakfast?  Actually, the only meat I can think of for breakfast that I like is bacon .. mmm …

Lunch (eaten in class) was a repeat of yesterday minus the pear plus extra strawberries – I had to eat up my fruit!  I also snacked on some grapes later, plus a hazelnut/southern pecan coffee.  I only had a tiny bit left of both flavors so I mixed them together and it was AWESOME.

I realized I’ve been eating pretty lightly this week for a couple reasons – weather and weekend.  The weather’s been bad, so I haven’t been able to run outside = less intense/no workout = quieter tummy.  Also, since I’m home this weekend and my family doesn’t eat as healthy as I do (although I do bring some stuff home to eat) and I know we’re going out to eat at least twice.  Also, I had to eat up my fruit/veggies/dairy quickly since I came home a day early!

I left for home from my last class when I got out at 5:30 and (unsafely?) ate a salad I had packed on my way – romaine, carrots, cukes, sugar snap peas, hummus, and salsa.  I made it home pretty quickly, with thoughts of delicious snacks racing through my mind the whole drive.  I came up with this:
