Hiii!

Sorry I’ve been absent – I needed a few days to regroup, pack, move back into school and settle. I’ll just recap today for now, and if I find anything exciting in the last few days’ pictures, you’ll be the first to know!

I woke up feeling good after a night at the bar with my friends – it was so so so so so fun and I couldn’t be happier I went! I just hung around for a little, cleaning and stuff before hitching a ride to the co-op (aka the bookstore) with one of my sisters. I picked up my books and some other goodies – including a new Vera Bradley wallet!

We also headed to Walmart where I picked up an $18 TV stand – which I then took home, unpacked and assembled by myself! Screws, nails, and all! I’m extremely proud of myself for putting something together. I’m awesome. While being productive, I ate:

After a sorority meeting, I made my way over to disappointment the dining hall. I feasted on tomato soup, whole wheat toast with Smart Balance, and some steamed veggies. Yum. I also snacked on half a chocolate chip z-bar:

At the surprisingly not packed gym, I ellipticalled for 35 minutes – 5 minutes on crossramp 10 and resistance 7 and 2 minutes on crossramp 12, resistance 10 repeated. After 30 boring minutes on a new and not improved stair stepper randomized level 7 workout, I did some ab work and called it a night. I also tried to catch up on blog reading while working on my fitness, but my Google reader is in the triple digits so I’m still wayyyy behind on reading and commenting.

My Big Y near school started carrying Flat Outs! I was so excited I grabbed two flavors to try – MultiGrain Flax and Honey Wheat! Love ittt!

I packed lunch due to my schedule for tomorrow’s first day of classes:

  • 8:45 – Breakfast with a couple of my sisters at the dhall
  • 9:30-10:45 – Nutrition Through the Life Cycle – SO SO excited for this class!!
  • 11-12:15ish – Gym
  • 12:30-1:45 – Medieval English Literature – so not excited for this class – except for the fact I’ll be eating in it
  • 2-3:15ish – Shower, change, snack
  • 3:30-4:45 – Emotion Through Literature and Film – pretty excited for this class!

Obviously, my appetite is off today – as it has been the last couple days. I know it’s due to a combination of things going on – stress, sadness, moving back to school, my new sleeping pill, etc. I’m sure that once I get back into the swing of things, I’ll be back on track with hunger! At least, I hope so – not wanting to eat/what I want to eat is not cool with me. I like to know what my body wants – I like cravings. Yes, I just said that.

Anyway, I’m off to bed early – first day of school tomorrow! I’ll be back to commenting regularly soon, I promise!

Good evening bloggies!

I headed out to the mall after this morning’s post and came home with some goodies! Two new nail polishes – Status Symbol, a bright pink by Essie, and We’ll Always Have Paris, a rich plum by OPI. Love them! Status Symbol is drying on my nails right now. I love deep, dark shades for winter and fall, but I also like switching them out with bright, cheery colors for warmth!

PB2!! I took the plunge and ordered the sample pack of PB2 and Chocolate PB2. I’m so excited to try these out – there will definitely be a full review involved as well!
Breakfast held me over for a surprisingly long time – 5 hours, including shopping cardio! However, I was verging on becoming a hunger monster when I got home and quickly assembled the first thing I could think of:

I mixed a can of tuna with a few tablespoons of plain Greek yogurt, a large squirt of deli mustard, diced celery, pepper, and paprika and threw half the mixture in my pita. Before the gym, I had a snack:

Key Lime Pie Larabar

I ate half before my workout and half after. This is one of the bars I received from Larabar for commenting on their blog during the holidays. Not sure I would have bought this flavor on my own, but I’m glad they did!
Key Lime Pie Larabar Opinion
Taste: So good! Sweet, tangy, and citrusy. I was “mmming” out loud the whole time. Not a strong lime flavor, but it’s definitely there. I’ve never had key lime pie so I can’t compare it to the real thing. 5/5.
Texture: Moist, chewy, nutty. 5/5.
Fill Factor: Held me through a 5 mile run and until dinner! 5/5.
Ingredients: “Dates, cashews, almonds, unsweetened coconut, lime juice concentrate.” I feel like lime juice concentrate should be higher up, since it’s the flavor so 4/5.
Nutrition: On the high end, calorie-wise, with 220 per bar. 10g of fat (3.5g saturated, 0g trans fat, 1.5g polyunsaturated, 4.5g monounsaturated, no cholesterol or sodium, 330mg of potassium, 31g of carbs (4g of fiber and 24g of sugar), and 4g of protein. 4/5.
Overall: Loved it! I’ll definitely be buying this flavor!

At the gym, I ran 5 miles in 47:13 doing this routine:
  • Mile 0-0.5: 6.0mph
  • Mile 0.5-1: 6.2mph
  • Mile 1-1.5: 6.1mph
  • Mile 1.5-2: 6.3mph
  • Mile 2-2.5: 6.2mph
  • Mile 2.5-3: 6.4mph
  • Mile 3-3.5: 6.3mph
  • Mile 3.5-4: 6.5mph
  • Mile 4-4.5: 6.4mph
  • Mile 4.5-5: 6.6mph

So every half mile, I added .2mph and then subtracted .1mph on the next half mile. I also threw some inclines in there randomly, for giggles.

Today’s gym session led me to today’s Tuesday Top 5 – The Top 5 Weird Things I Saw at the Gym – today, because obviously there are new phenomena every single visit. Except there were only 3 today, so bear with me.

The Top 3 Weird Things I Saw at the Gym (in no particular order of strangeness)

  1. This was more of a smell. COLOGNE. Strong, strong cologne. Seriously – so unnecessary and radiating from the elliptical across the aisle (?) from me and legit making it hard to breathe. Stop. Thanks.
  2. Jean leggings. Capri jean leggings. With painted on stitched pockets and seams. Now, I am an advocate of the “jegging” – comfortable, with the illusion of effort. I wish I had invented them myself. However, these were not stylish, good looking, or passable for actual jeans.
  3. A man with shoulders as wide as he was long. Boys, this is not a good look. “Gorilla” is not a good look. This is not attractive. It is unnatural. We, as humans, evolved from this look. Let’s keep on evolving.

If I was able to add two more things, not from today, I would add in the man who sings to himself on the treadmill – yes, sir, others can hear you, even if you have headphones in – and the man who was angrily rapping at the elliptical, 8 Mile style last week.

I mixed a plain Laughing Cow wedge into the marinara sauce, heated in the microwave before topping. We were out of parm and I love peas in pink sauce with pasta. Obviously, it didn’t taste the same, but I’d eat it again! Sooo many peas overflowing onto my plate. I love peas!

So – what should I do with my PB2????

At Whole Foods while picking up my cake and some supplies for my grandma who’s sick, I obviously hit up the salad/hot bar:

My box contained:

  • Mesclun greens
  • Steamed brocc
  • Red onion
  • Roasted eggplant
  • A hard-boiled egg
  • Dried cranberries
  • Peas
  • Piece of fajita turkey
  • Piece of chicken provencal

The hot bar at the Westport Whole Foods is pretty small and I was a little disappointed – there weren’t any marinated mushrooms (best thing ever) and the sign for roasted cauliflower (second best thing ever) was out, but suspiciously looked like green beans almondine. There isn’t any hummus out to use as a topping/dressing and my chicken provencal was definitely curried chicken. Not complaining since it was good, but how hard is it to label correctly?? The fajita turkey wasn’t good at all, I took a bite and left the rest. The roasted eggplant was the best part – I wish I had added more!

Out of the corner you can see a tiny bit of my drink – Hint water in mango-grapefruit. It’s definitely fruity, but not overpowering and not sweet at all – in a good way. It’s very refreshing, calorie and everything else-free. This flavor reminds me of summer! Yum!

On the way home, my mom and I stopped at Anthropologie to pick out my presents!

Major sale! Plus a belt that’s not online.

Apparently ginorm salads are not fuel enough for an Anthropologie sale and as soon as we got to the car, I scarfed down a granny smith I had in my purse for such snacking emergencies.

Dinner was Japanese at Sakura, in Westport. I started off dinner with a glass of shiraz and some miso soup. For my entree, I ordered the combination bento box with shrimp and scallops:

Demolished. For reals, everything was gone. Minus the middle pickled things, including all the onion slices and miniscule carrots in the teriyakis. SO DAMN GOOD. I also had a few chopsticks full of my side of brown rice, but not a lot at all.

Home and time for cake! All natural carrot cake from Whole Foods:

What was left after 6 people had a slice.

It was a small cake (I don’t like leftover cake) and so so delicious! It was so moist – dense but light – if that makes sense? So rich and amazing. The cream cheese frosting was probably the best I’ve ever had – exactly what it is supposed to taste like – sweet and creamy, with a slight tang. Drool.

The Just Desserts bakery, based in San Francisco, uses all natural ingredients, no trans fats, and bakes all their cakes from scratch! It honestly tasted like it had been baked fresh at WF, so they obviously know what they’re doing.

I really wanted another piece, but that was the wine/sugar high talking. After letting the cake settle, I was stuffed. Seriously the fullest I’ve been in a while. Ick. I can definitely tell the difference between healthy-food-full and sugar-coma-full. But it was my birthday and so worth it!

They eat carrots. A lot of carrots. So my mom and stepdad cut one in half and wrapped it in saran wrap as my dogs’ present to me. This is where I come from …

ANYWAY.

I started the morning off with a 20 minute YogaDownload.com podcast of Yoga for Runners and ate a tummy-cleansing breakfast:

Gym later, when it stops snowing. Yes, it’s snowing again. Starting my countdown to Ft. Lauderdale now.

As much as that song should remind me of Christmas time, it actually reminds me of my favorite commercial – the Staples ones that comes on in early August, with the dad dancing around the store merrily throwing school supplies into his cart .. anyone?

Anyway, breakfast was something new:

I was surprised when I opened it to find this:

That is was already blue, I mean.  I’m used to Chobani’s fruit at the bottom strategy, so I was expecting white yogurt with fruit to mix in.  But there wasn’t any fruit at the bottom for  me to mix, it was already done for me!

Siggi’s Icelandic Blueberry Skyr Opinion
Taste:
The skyr was really good!  About as tangy and tart as plain Greek yogurt, with a definitive blueberry taste.  It doesn’t scream “I TASTE LIKE BLUEBERRY,” but has a more subtle flavor throughout.  Very unique, and very good.  4/5.
Texture: You can see how thick it is – like 2% or whole milk Greek yogurt.  It’s also incredibly creamy – 5/5.
Fill Factor:
I wasn’t very hungry for breakfast and I didn’t eat it alone, but I think it would be a great snack and was filling for a smaller breakfast with only a couple hours until lunch.  I wouldn’t eat it alone for a meal, but definitely a snack.  3/5.
Ingredients: Above is the list of what’s not in it, and here is what it does contain: “Pasteurized skim milk, agave nectar, blueberries, live active cultures, vegetable rennet.”  5/5.

I’ll definitely be buying this again!  I can’t wait to try the plain and the orange & ginger flavors I bought!  I wish they hadn’t been out of the grapefruit and acai – all of the others sound so good too.  I just wish I could afford to buy them when they’re not on sale 😦

After breakfast I headed to luxurious Tar-jay and knocked out 80% of my Christmas shopping – go me!  I also picked up some fun dishes …

Then my mom and I went out to grab lunch and run some errands.  At an AMAZING local soup/salad/sandwich place, Chef’s Table, I built my own salad:

Romaine, red onion, grilled chicken, steamed brocc, maple glazed sweet potatoes, chickpeas

Nomnomnommm .. this is my salad after I ate half of it at lunch.  I ordered fat free balsamic on the side, but didn’t end up needing it.  I also had a Diet Lemon Snapple – it had been too long, my friends.  Snapple is where it’s at.  Except nutritionally.  ANYWAY, I ate the other half of mi ensalada after a glorious stop at …

LULULEMON!

It was my first time and it was heaven.  Almost like Whole Foods.  Almost.  I wasn’t going to buy anything, just show my mom some ideas for Christmas, but then I saw this –

The Brisk Run Headband in Lolo Purple.  My ears are really the only thing (besides my hands) that I have trouble keeping warm on runs lately.  I figured $14 wouldn’t cause too much damage to my ever-dwindling bank account.  Then I was drawn to the pants wall .. and the Wunder Under pant, specifically.

Except the new version with the “Groove” waistband, white and black manifesto, to be exact.  The sales woman was super nice and I FIT INTO A SIZE 4 and my mom and the sales woman told me they looked good and my mom gave me some money towards them and I haven’t been a size 4 since middle school.  So I will be debuting and reviewing them tomorrow!  I’m actually wearing them now because I get super excited about new $82 leggings – I am ridiculous but I’m okay with that.  I know they’ll never fall apart and perhaps spending such an insane amount of money on running leggings will motivate me to use them.  I intend to break them in with some yoga after dinner, because it has been FAR too long and wearing Lulu makes me feel like I should be doing some yoga.

After a couple more stops, we were finally home and I snacked on this apple:

2 more adult carrots (not so witch finger-y), 2 cups of Pacific Organics Creamy Butternut Squash soup, crack wrap with Sabra Pine Nut Hummus, LC light swiss wedge, and roasted chicken breast

SO DELISH.  When I was peeling my carrots for lunch and dins, I was remembering doing it to have carrots as a nighttime snack when I was younger.  I’ve always loved carrots.  My mom claims my skin even took on a slightly orange tinge as a toddler, but it was probably just a reflection of my bright Irish hair on my pale Irish skin.  The carrot snacks were before I discovered Ben & Jerry’s as an adolescent and thought that a pint = a serving size.  Fail.

The soup was so good.  I’ve been meaning to try this for a while, and when I saw it in my cabinet yesterday, I knew I had to break it out for dinner.  It was thick and creamy, like a bisque – but much less fat.  It was also the reduced sodium version, which I appreciated, and great, since it didn’t need any additional salt or spices!  I could definitely taste the garlic, ginger, and nutmeg listed in the ingredients.  They complemented the creamy squash really well.  The leftover roasted chicken was a great addition to my already amazing crack wrap.

Now that I’ve gotten sick of “Ghost Hunters” and after mad flippage (really, You, Me, and DupreeFootloose?  Where is the Halloween spirit???) found my sorority sista Rue McClanahan (aka Blanche the slut of “Golden Girls”) on “Celebrity Ghost Stories,” I’m going to warm up a Spooky S’mores bar and continue ignoring my homework and laundry…
