I need to head to bed, so we’ll do this quick and in a time-blocked manner. My plan changed a bit from what I posted yesterday!

7:30am – Wake up, blow dry and straighten hair, get ready for my last first day of classes!

8:30am – Breakfast with some of my sisters: Cheerios, banana, rice milk, and coffee to go with skim and Splenda.

9:30am – Nutrition Through the Life Cycle. Moves fast, but prints slides and posts them online. Love this class already.

11am – Stand in line for 45 minutes to get refund check from Bursar’s office. Worth it.

11:45am – Read the first chapter of my nutrition book for review. Get overly excited about RDIs and vitamin intake. Diagnose self with 92348429 deficiencies. Realize I am a hypochondriac. Eat my packed lunch from yesterday – spinach, hummus, raisin wrap and an orange. You already saw it.

12:30pm – Medieval English Literature. I just “learned” this all in Brit Lit. Beowulf again, oh joy.

1:00pm – Get out of class super early. Head to bank to deposit mad moneys. Curse the weather yet again – instead of predicted snow, it is raining. And very cold. I decked out in snow gear, not rain. The two are very different.

1:20pm – Head to cafe to read more nutrition, play with my friend that works there, and drink an Awake tea with skim and Splenda.

1:25pm – Wonder when my nutrition book will tell me to stop inhaling Splenda.

3:30pm – Emotion in Literature and Film. Spend 1.25 hours going over a syllabus I can understand, as a senior in college, by myself. Die inside a little. Munch a Spooky S’mores bar whose picture my Blackberry ate.

4:45-5:20pm – Wait for bus. In lieu of waiting for Blue line, get on Green line to get to Red line stop.

5:45pm – Finally get on a bus home. Surprised I haven’t started crying. Maybe I have, and mistook it for rain.

6:00pm – Eat some dried apricots.

6:30pm – Head to off campus gym with sister for free week from her membership.

6:45pm – Join off campus gym. They have TVs, air conditioning, classes, and a spa-like bathroom. I want to be friends with the front desk girl.

6:50pm – Ellipticize for 30 minutes on level 10 of rolling hills. Realize I am now technically paying for 3 gym memberships. Acknowledge my hardcore-ness.

7:25pm – 3.1 miles in 28:44, half on iPod, half on The Office. Wonder if weight lifters next to me are judging me for laughing out loud. I love you, Jim.

8:00pm – Stop at CVS to buy bright purple lock for new gym. Feel even more hardcore.

8:45pm – Finally eat dinner. Focus not on taste, but talking with friends. Feel like a real person again.

It’s pretty good! Spicier than I was expecting and not too sweet. I had a strawberry Chobani with granola later on, but you’ve seen that.

The holidays aren’t over until after New Year’s, right? Here’s what it looks like out of the box and “unwrapped.” The tea bag itself is very nice – almost like silk. And I love the tiny leaf for the string!

So cute! I really loved the Winter Chai flavor. It was perfectly spiced and sweet. Definitely reminded me of winter, but I can picture it tasting amazing iced in the summer too, with milk. The sweetness was seriously perfect. I didn’t need to add any sweetener but it wasn’t at all overpowering. I can’t wait to try the other flavors!

The cup there is double-insulated, so it keeps the tea warm but your hands cool. It was really fun to use, I even had another cup of tea (the last of my Candy Cane Lane 😦 ) in it a little while later!

I was really craving veggies and volume today, so dinner part two was another salad:

I always get so behind on weekends!  This one was particularly busy, though .. let’s go back to Saturday morning …

After my run I made some apple oats:

This bowl of oatmeal was very creamy!  I don’t know if it was because I put the apple in with the oats in the microwave or what, but I loved it!  I don’t think I’ll put the apple in with the oatmeal to cook again though, I like mine better cool and crunchy.  It’s just such a good texture/taste contrast with the oatmeal.  Heated up, I really couldn’t even taste the apple.

After breakfast Saturday I went food shopping.  Here’s the one picture of all my goodies before my camera died:

Yesss!  I was SO excited to finallyyyy find the Celestial Seasonings holiday teas – and 2 for $5!!  I haven’t had Candy Cane Lane yet, but Sugar Cookie Sleigh Ride smells and tastes exactly like a sugar cookie – I’m addicted!

I made lunch as soon as I got back:

It was a great lunch, especially healthy in preparation for our semi-formal later Saturday night.  It didn’t start til 8 and we were supposed to get served dinner right when we got there, but of course we didn’t eat til 9:30.  In anticipation of an extremely late dinner, I snacked on some grapes before I left for my friend’s apartment to get ready.  Before we went to take pictures with everyone, I had a Clif Mojo Trailmix bar – my favorite!  At our other friend’s apartment, I snacked on a bunch of honey wheat pretzel sticks – they were SO good and SO addicting!

Like I said, we were supposed to get served dinner at 8, but they didn’t put the buffet out until 9:30!!  I had two small breadstick-like items when they brought them out, and a salad with some romaine and one slice of tomato with some sort of honey dressing?  I ended up taking two pictures during the night.  One of the was of my dinner.  Typical.

It was all actually pretty good, especially the potatoes!  For dessert, we had pieces of rolled-up ice cream cake – you know what I’m talking about.  I just had two bites of a friend’s – I was pretty full from all of my pre-semi snacking and dinner.  It was a really fun night!  I stayed at my friend’s apartment to keep her company and we went to bed as soon as we got back.  We’re old, what can I say?

I treated her to a surprisingly good dining hall breakfast the next morning.  They had so much great fruit!  Maybe I should start eating there more for breakfast…but of course it’s not usually so great.  I had some watermelon (!!), cantaloupe, two hard boiled eggs, and a piece of whole wheat toast with Smart Promise and coffee.  I spent the afternoon writing a paper at the library.  I packed a boring turkey sandwich with grapes and carrots for lunch and had an iced coffee while I was there.

Dinner was eaten anxiously at the dining hall – we were waiting for our sorority’s new slate of positions to come out!  I’m a nerd, but I love that kind of stuff.  Especially as a graduating senior, I wanted to know who we were leaving in charge.  Overall, I’m really really happy and proud of all of our new officers, I know they’re going to do an amazing job!  However, the slate isn’t passed yet (it has to sit for a week) so they’re not “official” yet.  Anyway, food.  I had some turkey rice soup that was really good but SO SO SO salty.  It was messing with my stomach all night and today I’m definitely puffy from all that sodium and still feel gross.  I’m basically going to just guzzle water all day and try to flush it out of my system.

Yesterday I was too tired and busy doing homework to go to the gym or on a run – but it was so gorgeous out!  Sunny and about 60 degrees!  So weird for Connecticut in November but I’ll take it.  The next few days are supposed to be the same way!  This morning I got up at 6, made coffee and ate half of this apple before I did 4.06 miles in 37 minutes exactly!

I do already feel better after running, but I’m just going to down water all day – which goes perfectly with operation hydration … which hasn’t been going so well, along with operation strength.  Ooops!

What are some good foods/drinks to de-saltify (it’s not a word, but whatever) your body?  I feel like I’ve heard peppermint can help … What a great excuse to try out Candy Cane Lane!  I’m just going to go check on my crops before breakfast …

But I’m not going to let this one get me down!

After work yesterday, I went out with a friend for dinner to a steakhouse/Mexican restaurant.  Yes, it’s two in one.  I really was craving Mexican but I also just really wanted shrimp and I’ve been craving shrimp for WEEKS.  I LOVE seafood – especially shrimp and scallops, but really I love it all.

Miracle of the day – I only had 2 (TWO!) of the freshly fried delicious tortilla chips placed in front of us upon sitting.  Their salsa is amazing and super spicy, just the way I like it!  But whenever I go there I end up making a meal out of the chips, calorically and volume-wise.  It’s just not worth it.

I ordered the shrimp and avocado salad, no cheese.  Also, no picture.  It came on a bed of romaine and iceberg, with 3 jumbo (1 was definitely not) shrimp, tomatoes, red and green pepper slices, onions, cucumbers, and avocado.  I got fat-free honey dijon on the side.  The menu didn’t say that the shrimp were sauteed in anything but they definitely were – I just have no idea what.  I couldn’t even really put a taste on it.  I ate all of the shrimpies, lettuce, onion, cucumbers, and peppers (which I usually don’t like), and even some of the grape tomatoes, which I also usually don’t like.  I didn’t eat the avocado because being out of season, it had no taste.  And was browning.  Ick.  It was ok but I definitely could have made it at home for wayyyyy cheaper.  But it’s the company that was nice :).

I came home and wasn’t full so I had a snack:

Elie Kreiger’s The Food You Crave cookbook!!!!  I had a gift card to Borders and heard a lot of great things about this cookbook.  It’s my very first!  Although I’ll most likely be living at home next year (and my dream job would take me on the road), I really want to learn how to cook.  Eventually I’ll be on my own and need to cook REAL meals for myself, and down the line, for my family.

Flipping through this last night, I just want to cook everything!  It all looks and sounds SO amazing.  I love that she has nutritional facts and serving sizes for everything, as well as healthy eating tips throughout the book.  It really is a healthy lifestyle cookbook, not “diet food.”  I can’t wait to try something out when I’m home this weekend!

Right now I’m in bed sipping coffee, waiting to get hungry to make breakfast.  It will definitely include milk and/or eggs since I’m going home tomorrow for the weekend and need to use up my perishables.  I skipped any exercise yesterday and was planning a run for this morning, but the rain had other plans for me.  Now my plan is to hit the gym after work.  And then the library to write that paper I should have started last night … oh, well, I have time!

It’s hard to believe global warming exists when it’s 30 degrees outside when I wake up in mid-October.  After trying to talk myself out of my run, going back inside to change leggings and grab new headphones, I ran the 3.5 miles my training plan calls for at about a 10 mile and hour pace, which is normal for me.  Before my run, I quieted my tummy with a mini Clif Crunchy Peanut Butter bar.

Taste:
When I saw that jalapenos were the dead last ingredient, I thought it might need some extra spice – and I was right.  Overall, the taste that shined through were the black beans – and really nothing else.  It was good, but nothing special.  I’d eat it again but only if I wasn’t buying.  2/5.
Texture: The chunks of tofu and potato were great with the creamy black beans and chewy wrap. 4/5.
Fill Factor:
Great for only 250 calories – it kept me full all morning until lunch!  5/5.
Ingredients: Yay for mostly organic ingredients!  I’ll have to look into what expeller pressed high oleic safflower oil and tapioca powder are,  and I’m curious what “spices” they’re referring to.  4/5.

I’m sad my macadamia nut coffee is gone :0( But I do have a bag of Maple Toasted Nut waiting for tomorrow!

A pepper turkey and Garlic & Herb Laughing Cow wedge on an Arnold’s 100% Whole Wheat Sandwich Thin, a Tazo Passion tea, and a pluot!

Mmm I LOVE pepper turkey!  The spicy turkey with the garlicky cheese was perfect on my favorite Arnold’s Sandwich Thin!

The Pluot:  I saw these at Big Y on my excursion last week and snagged one to try!  What I thought: with two fruit to live up to, I had high hopes – but to be honest, it didn’t really taste like anything.  The texture was great and plum-like though!  Maybe it’s not the season for pluots?  Are there even seasons for cross-fruits?

Mid-afternoon I scarfed down a banana, and dinner was an unphotographed whole wheat wrap with turkey, lettuce, tomato, jalapeno, and roasted red pepper hummus from the dining hall with a few orange slices.  After my school’s Homecoming pageant, I had my favorite snack!  A strawberry Chobani (legit addicted) with a cup of Kashi Honey Sunshine cereal.  No pic :(.  It’s honestly a rare day that I don’t eat Greek yogurt.  A lot of times if I realize I haven’t eaten it all day, I’ll plan it into my dinner or snack later.  I think I need some sort of group …
